Is the CQE Worth It? Career and Salary Angles

The CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) is one of ASQ's most respected certifications. Whether it is worth the time and cost depends on your career stage, industry, and goals.

Who benefits most

Typical study investment

Most candidates report 80–150 hours of focused preparation over 3–5 months. The exam is 160 questions over 5 hours. The pass rate is roughly 50–60% on the first attempt — it is not easy.

Recertification

The CQE requires 18 Recertification Units (RUs) every three years — through continuing education, ASQ meetings, publications, and on-the-job experience. This keeps the credential active and the holder current.
